Michael Alberts, President and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank, recently announced that the Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation has awarded over $40,000 in grants to local emergency services providers.
“Our first responders dedicate their time and put their lives on the line protecting our neighbors. The Foundation is proud to support and help them obtain the equipment they need to protect property and save lives,” said Alberts.
Special Projects
The Foundation awarded $15,008 to seven local emergency services providers to help fund special projects. $3,150 was granted to the Central Village Fire Company for the purchase of pagers for their first responders. Jewett City Fire Department received $2,562 to equip four firefighters with Escape Systems gear. The Moosup Fire District received a $2,500 grant to help purchase roadway safety equipment.
$1,500 was awarded to Sterling Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. for the purchase of a fire rescue skid attachment for a UTV. Atwood Hose Fire Company in Wauregan was awarded $1,296 to purchase battery-operated lights and chargers. Recipients of $1,000 grants were the South Killingly Fire District to help purchase a new battery-powered ventilation fan and the Muddy Brook Fire Department in Woodstock to help purchase high-visibility safety jackets.
The Griswold Volunteer Fire Company and Jewett City Fire Department were also awarded $1,000 grants in honor of past Bank Vice Chairman Gail Rooke-Norman.
Annual Support
Grants amounting to $25,100 were awarded in annual support. The Canterbury Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Department received a grant of $1,100. Grants of $1,000 were awarded to: Attawaugan Fire Department; Atwood Hose Fire Company; Dayville Fire Company; East Brooklyn Fire Department; East Killingly Fire Department; Griswold Volunteer Fire Company; Jewett City Fire Department; Killingly/Brooklyn Ambulance Corps.; Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department; Moosup Fire Department; Mortlake Fire Co. & Ambulance Service in Brooklyn; Oneco Fire Company; Plainfield Fire Company No. 1, Inc.; Sterling Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.; and Williamsville Fire Engine Company in Rogers.
$700 was awarded to the American Legion Ambulance Fund in Moosup. Grants of $600 were presented to: Central Village Fire Company; Danielson Fire Department; East Putnam Fire Department; Pawcatuck Fire Department; Poquetanuck Fire Department EMS in Preston; Preston City Volunteer Fire Department; Putnam EMS Ambulance Service; Putnam Fire Department; South Killingly Fire Department; Voluntown Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, Inc.; West Thompson Fire Department; Westerly Fire Department; and Woodstock Volunteer Fire Association. The Lisbon Ambulance Service was awarded a $500 grant.
