Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation Awards Over $13,000 in Grants Honoring the Bank’s 150th Anniversary

Michael Alberts, President of the Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation, announced the Foundation awarded seven grants totaling $13,111 to local nonprofits in honor of the Bank’s 150th anniversary.

$1,873 grants, a number selected in recognition of the year the Bank was founded, were awarded to the following organizations:

  • The Plainfield Police Department to help pay for a new digital sign outside the department.
  • The Last Green Valley in support of their work promoting and protecting the National Heritage Corridor.
  • The Griswold Historical Society to help them continue to preserve and share Griswold’s heritage and historical development.
  • The Quinebaug Valley Senior Citizens Center, Inc. to help fund programs at the senior center.
  • The Aspinock Historical Society to assist in the replacement of the railroad ties beneath the Gertrude Chandler Warner Boxcar Children Museum.
  • The Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center, Inc. to support their mission of providing social and essential services to local families in need.
  • The Preston Schools PTO to help fund their annual family fun day, Preston Palooza.

In addition to the grants, Jewett City Savings Bank sponsored a 150th Family Fun Day in July and celebrated the anniversary of each of its seven branches on, or near, the date of its founding. During each branch celebration, visitors could come by for cupcakes and refreshments and to see the Bank’s traveling history display. They also had the opportunity to enter a $150 drawing, which automatically entered them into the Bank’s $1,500 grand prize drawing. In a random drawing in December, Jessica Epstein was selected as the winner of the grand prize drawing.

“As we celebrated this once-in-a-lifetime milestone we also wanted to take a moment and recognize the organizations who work hard to fulfill their missions of supporting our communities and helping them thrive,” said Alberts. “We are honored to use this time to celebrate them and our amazing neighbors who have helped us carry out our mission.”
